Lessons

Beginners

Children are taught in a ratio of 3 children to 1 adult. They learn to put their face in the water and learn basic skills and strokes demonstrated by their teachers. As they develop, confidence in the water grows. Most children will start with the Duckling Awards, and as they progress, they will then start on the Water Skills programme.

Intermediate

The children continue to be taught in the ratio of 3 children to 1 adult and by now are capable of swimming independently on their front and back for a width. They will be confident in the water and are learning the strokes and techniques as well breathing as they swim. They will continue on the Water Skills Framework.

Advanced

Children are taught in a group by a teacher from the poolside, They are continuing to develop and improve their stroke techniques, breathing and start to build on stamina. They will be working at the higher stages of the Water Skills Framework.

Lengths

Children are taught by 2 teachers from the poolside, These children are perfecting their stroke techniques and stamina, swimming continuous lengths with breaks when instruction is given. They will be completing distance awards and the swimming challenge awards, These children will also have the opportunity to do Rookie lifeguard skills.

Lengths + Rookie

This will introduce lifesaving skills and personal survival techniques.
Swimming in clothes, no goggles.
Towing and reach rescues.

This will enhance strength in swimming as it incorporates water fitness in treading water and towing and underwater swimming. It is done without goggles so it will be head up swimming with clothing on to replicate outdoor rescues and survival.

3 Bronze level awards
3 Silver level awards
3 Gold level awards

Did you know that once children reach the age of 16 they can take the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. They can also study for the Level 1 Swim Teachers Certification while aged 15, then qualify so long as the final assessment comes after they are 16.
